LONG BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ELEVATES EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND EQUITY WITH NEW GRADING POLICY

[LONG BEACH, CA., March 22, 2024] - Long Beach Unified School District (菠菜网lol正规平台) takes a monumental step towards advancing educational excellence and equity with the unanimous approval of the Equitable Grading Policy by the Board of Education, which will be in effect beginning the 2024-25 school year.

The Equitable Grading Policy is a transformative endeavor rooted in 菠菜网lol正规平台’s unwavering dedication to providing every student with an equal opportunity to succeed. This pioneering initiative will revolutionize how the District assesses and supports student learning, setting a new standard for educational excellence and equity.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated teachers, whose tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping this policy,” Superintendent Dr. Jill A. Baker affirmed.

“We are immensely grateful for the hundreds of voices that contributed to the development of this policy and will continue to inform its implementation,” Dr. Baker continued. “This policy embodies our mission and ethos: educational excellence and equity. The Equitable Grading Policy will serve as the cornerstone for a more inclusive educational experience, offering students hope for a brighter future. We take immense pride in the collaborative efforts of our grading policy focus groups – a two-year engagement process – to ensure the success and well-being of every student in Long Beach Unified.”

In alignment with the Excellence and Equity Policy, the Equitable Grading Policy will establish a uniform grading system for all students in 菠菜网lol正规平台, providing cohesive grading practices across the District. It prioritizes student growth and mastery of content while mitigating the impact of historical disparities, extending to all students, including those with learning disabilities, experiencing trauma or needing additional time to complete assignments due to life challenges.

“The Equitable Grading Policy will benefit all Long Beach Unified students and is a testament to our commitment to educational excellence and equity,” Deputy Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Brown said. “With this grading policy, we are taking an epochal step forward to dismantle systems that have historically marginalized Black and Brown students, students with disabilities and English Learners.”

Long Beach Unified will continue its efforts to engage with students, teachers, parents and district personnel about the new Equitable Grading Policy, and remains committed to transparency and collaboration as we move forward with this transformative initiative. The approval of the Equitable Grading Policy reinforces our ongoing dedication to creating a more equitable and inclusive learning environment.

Long Beach Unified looks forward to implementing this groundbreaking policy and continuing to lead the way in educational excellence and equity.
